LEVE Vinyl On Sale Now

The good folk at Artistic Association LEVE have announced the following:

G R A B A C I O N E S D E C A M P O # 0 1
SOUND PUBLICATION 10" VINYL
EDITION OF 250 COPIES SILK-SCREEN PRINTED

Grabaciones de Campo#01 comprises a selection of sound and musical pieces that intervene in a specific soundscape. Taking as a starting point the registration of a concrete site and its specific acoustics, the artists intervened in it or captured the natural sonic events that make the location unique. All the pieces were recorded in 2012, mostly in the vicinity of the rural village Castro de Cepeda, located in a low mountain range in the north of Spain. The recordings were made around the village itself, both in its geographical surroundings, and in the recording studio built in the village. This studio was constructed in an old barn and cattle stable, and refurbished with respect for its original construction materials: stone, mud, and bales of straw. A distinctive feature of the songs is due in part to the acoustic conditions of the studio space, which was intentionally left exposed to the intrusion of accidental sound and offers a sound matter that is not 'neutral'. The songs, recorded in one-take sessions, become field recordings. They coexist harmonically with the other non-musical pieces that make this edition. This edition has no cuts between pieces, as it has been designed to be experienced as long, uninterrupted takes of 10 minutes each (the duration of each side of the vinyl).

Maximilian Le Cain, Background
A montage of sound impressions recorded during a stay in Castro de Cepeda. Processed and edited later in Cork (Ireland), they are part of the soundtrack of the short film Background (video and Super8), which also features footage shot in situ.

Matrimonio, El Pirómano
Birds nested in the sound studio and magpies invaded it with their rattle when Juan Carlos Fernández (Spanish guitar and vocals) was recording his next musical project with Gloria Vilches (chorus).

Rafael Martínez del Pozo, Ranas
In spring hundreds of frogs sing loudly from the pond near the village. Cacahuete and Leo slipped in during the recording.

Lorena Álvarez, Centro de atención
An alternative take to the one that appears in her debut album 'Anónimo' (Sones, 2012). Conceived as a field recording, it was performed and recorded next to the frogs' pond.

Esperanza Collado, El arco incandescente
At dusk, the street lightning is activated, motivated by astronomical clocks and photocells. The long wait is interspersed with subtle interventions of mallet and cymbal.

Roldán, Te crece el pelo
A song executed and recorded at once and unexpectedly, just when we all thought the recording session was finished.

Laida Lertxundi, Fizzle 6
The landscape geography and diegetic sound of Laida's filmography made the only off-site collaboration in this project very appealing. The piece gathers sound recordings from various shoots in Los Angeles, Pyrenees, Normandy, Baleares, and Madrid.

Las Hermanas Diego, Haz un hueco para
Three people play simultaneously in different spaces of the house. The sounds travel between rooms. Kantia Diego composes and sings. Esperanza and Rafa accompany her.

This edition has been produced with a grant for cultural projects from Instituto Leonés de Cultura.
